L.A., Coliseum

The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, aka "The Coliseum" - commissioned to be built in 1921 as a memorial to Los Angeles veterans of World War I. Designed by Los Angeles father/son architects John and Donald Parkinson, it was rededicated to include WWII by California Gov. Earl Warren on Memorial Day 1946. However, when the Sports Arena was built in Exposition Park and opened in 1959, the new arena became the city of Los Angeles’ memorial to World War II and the Korean War. The Coliseum itself was once again referred to as the Los Angeles County World War 1 memorial. It was renovated to host the 1932 Olympic Games and in 1984 became the only venue to host two Olympics. It is also the only Olympic venue to host both Super Bowls and World Series. It is the home field for the USC football team. Seating capacity, which has been as much as 105,000, is currently 93,607. I wasn't able to get shots of all the plaques at the main gate - yet. These photos were all taken before the 2017-2019 updates.
And, at the end of 2021, it was converted to a temporary 1/4 mile Nascar track.
