Terminal Annex, L. A.

Completed in 1938, the Annex was where mail was sorted after it arrived at neighboring Union Station. At its peak, 2,000 employees worked in the building. Here we focus on the art which decorates the bottom floor.

  • One of the entry doors. Be prepared - it is VERY heavy.

  • The building is dedicated to postal workers who went to war and died. One in World War I and 13 in World War II.

  • 80 years ago, there was a lot more activity in this building.
  • Artist  Boris Deutsch was the creator of all of the half-moon ("lunette") shaped murals on the walls of the bottom floor.
  • Mural 1 - There were almost 1,400 murals by almost 850 artists commissioned by the federal government to be placed in post offices. Their purpose was to help people cheer up after The Great Depression.
